Operational History[]

The Radar Dome was developed in the middle of the Second World War to enable commanders a more comprehensive view of the battlefield. Originally an American design, its rugged and simple construction led to its adoption by the armed forces of many countries, earning itself a place in both the Allied and Soviet arsenals. Its most striking feature was a large angular dome that housed the sensitive antenna array. Set on a sturdy concrete base, it proved itself to be quite a durable structure, much to the surprise of many attackers expecting an easy kill. The Radar Dome was essential for any functioning base, granting commanders increased tech levels and a detailed view of the battlefield, allowing defenders to anticipate an enemy attack

Later, when the next generation of MCVs were developed, they were designed to incorporate built-in radar systems, making the Radar Dome redundant. After the war, many Radar Domes were assigned to second line installations far from enemy lines, to act as temporary protection until more suitable equipment could be found. Due to this, few of these Radar Domes were temporarily moved by the Allies to the Arizona Boneyard until a buyer was found. When the Confederate Revolutionaries assaulted the Boneyard, Confederate leaders recognized the potential of producing Radar Domes for their own ends. Since Confederate MCVs were not equipped with the advanced radar so needed on the battlefield of today, it was decided that Radar Domes would become an official element of the Confederate arsenal. It was not too difficult for the Confederates to acquire blueprints for these structures, and they were soon a common sight in Confederate installations. Following modifications by environmentalists in the Confederate ranks, the Radar Dome doubles up as a hydroponics bay in times of isolation, which takes in excess Carbon Dioxide and produces oxygen and food for Confederate troops.

Despite seeming to be an expensive and cumbersome design, it is remarkably cost-effective and durable. Due to it being independent of an MCV, it will continue to emit a radar feed even if the Construction Yard is destroyed. In addition, the Radar Dome can be used as a spying structure, thanks to its generous sight radius and durable construction.
