Tactical Analysis[]

  • I have many torpedos: The Jiaolong Torpedo Ship acts as an escort for the bigger and slower ships, and its Anti-Matter torpedos make it a dangerous foe to any naval vessels the enemy might send out.
  • Full power on deflector shields!: The Jiaolong is also equipped with a powerful shield generator, which is needed because its frame is not very sturdy by itself. The shield generator is in fact strong enough to enable the ship to make a long leap around by overcharging its aft section.
  • Just another boat: For all its strengths, the Jiaolong is made for just one purpose, to sink ships. It can’t do anything about either aircraft or enemies on land and is outraged by artillery.
  • Who’s in command here?: Like a number of chinese units, Jiaolongs has greater performance when it’s accompanied by commander variants.

Background[]

The Naval Report

"From a famous English television channel:"

Sam Carter: "Hello and welcome to our series about who, when, in China, when there is an uprising of a major military force who destroyed the remnants of the first democracy on Chinese ground and the communist regime under Mao. Today we are going to talk about their naval force. Here to guide us through them is Bob Hale, with the Naval Report."

Bob Hale: "Thanks Sam. Well as you can see, here is a map of China (map of China hangs down), and here are their ports and HERE are their ships (boat signs shown). The Chinese have a lot of ships, big ships, small ships, long ships, short ships, all sorts of ships. Ships chips chips... hey that makes me hungry... Anyway, there are ships that might be fun to know about, the Jiaolong Torpedo Ships. They have many Jiaolong ships, torpedo ships, command ships, small boats, big boats and they are travelling along with the other boats.

The Jiaolong have torpedos, many torpedos, that are a danger for our ships. They are fast, they are small and you don't want to run into them on the sea on a dark night (nightsky and moon are shown). And on one dark night someone ran into them! Yes, the Empire of the Rising Sun are back and their ships are under attack... BUT NOT FOR LONG because we will help them of course.

Now what makes the Jiaolong stand out? Not its torpedos but why then? Because it can jump. Yes, because it can jump about 220 feet HIGHER than any other ship. In fact, you could jump on an island with it but please don't, you might get stuck on there. And those ships have shields (knight shield shown) that defend them from others attacking them. IN FACT, their jump works because of those shields.

Now the Chinese also have other ships, Kun Subs, Royal Ships, Quilins, Great Wings, Little Wings, Mini Wings, Chicken Wings... ha! I need food... (goes off to eat something)"

Sam Carter: "(slightly annoyed look) Uh thank you Bob... (smiles into camera)"

...Fade to black...

Key Features  » Twin Anti-Matter torpedo tubes (empty)
 » Compact fission reactor
 » Enhanced planar shield array
 » Redesigned bridge section
 » Anti-Matter traps w/ warning sign

Tactical Analysis[]

  • Officer on deck: Like its land bound counterpart, the Jiaolong Command Ship serves to coordinate is fellow brethren in battle.
  • What do you mean we have no torpedoes?!: Also like its Nian counterpart, the boat is completely unarmed.
  • More power to shields: Fortunately, its shields are strengthened and it can still execute jumps to get out of danger.

Background[]

As with the Nian command tank, the Jiaolong command ship is responsible for leading its brethren into battle. The captains of these ships mostly consist of clones specially programmed for leadership roles, though it’s not unheard of for Officers to be in command. Sophisticated communication and sensor equipment takes up much of room of the ship, so much so that there isn’t enough space for ordnance. In combat command ships focus on evading enemy fire, leaving the fighting to its more expendable brothers.

Key Features  » Anti-Matter torpedo launcher (x1)
 » Planar shield generator (overcharged)
» Lead cooled fission reactor (ultra compact)
 » Streamlined, lightweight ship hull
 » Large Anti-Matter trap (dangerous)

Tactical Analysis[]

  • I also have torpedoes: A variant of the Jiaolong, this boat is much swifter can make shield jumps much more often than a standard version can. Its shield strength is also superior.
  • I may not have enough torpedoes: These benefits come at price of less firepower and a more volatile power source.

Background[]

Engineer S’Kul report:

I am proud to say we have finally completed work on the new Jianlong-class strike variant. By using molten lead as coolant in the reactor, we have achieved much greater power and speed than would be possible with a more conventional liquid. However, I would be amiss to say the design does not have some flaws. Obviously, if the reactor is left in power down state for too long the lead will solidify, ruining the generator. Also the new design takes up bit more space, requiring the reduction of armaments of two side mounted launch tubes, to a single center mounted one. Skill will be required to use the boat correctly, as such I advise it only be crewed by either highly trained clones or eunuchs, whichever’s more expendable.
